Fish River Canyon Hiking Trail The Fish River hiking trail, which starts from the main viewpoint near Hobas and ends at Ai-Ais, is one of the truly unique trails in the world. It is approximately 80km long taking 4-5 days to complete. Start date for Fish River Canyon is May 1 to September 15 each year. Maximum of 30 persons per day are allowed into the canyon for hiking. Children under age 12 are not permitted. Demand is high so reservations should be made well in advance. Hikers must present a recent medical certificate of fitness within the preceeding 40 days and complete an indemnity form, prior to commencing the trail. Hikers are advised to stay over at Hobas camping site the night before the hike commences. Own transport to the starting point must be arranged.
Daan Viljoen Hiking Trail
The game park excludes potentially dangerous game species which means that visitors can safely explore the park on foot. An unguided walking trail of 32km is open to groups of 3 to 12 persons. The trail commences at 9:00 on each day and finishes in one or two days. Own food and water must be provided.
Namib Naukluft Hiking Trail A 120km trail can be completed in 8 days, or in 4 days for the first 60km. Due to climatic conditions, the trail is open from 1 March to the third Friday in October only. The trail starts on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays on the first three weeks of each month. Camping facilities and water are available at stopover points. Groups should consist of a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 12 persons. Visitors must provide their own food and equipent. Demand is high so reservation should be made well in advance.
Waterberg Wilderness Trails
There is a Guided Wilderness Trail is 50km long and starts every second, third and fourth weekend of each month from April to November. Hikers depart on Thursday at 14:00 at Onjoka Gate and arrive back on Sunday afternoon. Hikers should provide their own food and camping equipment.
Unguided Wilderness Trail
The Unguided Wilderness Trail is 42km long and is taken without a guide. The trail takes 4 days and is open from April to November. Hikers depart every Wednesday at 9:00 and return on Saturday. Own food and camping equipment must be provided. Groups should consist of 3 to 10 persons.
Ugab River Hiking Trail One of the best ways to explore some of the mysteries of the Skeleton Coast Park is to join the guided hike along the Ugab River valley. A group of 6 to 8 people leave on this trail every second and fourth Thursday of each month, from April to October. The trail is 50km long and is completed in 3 days. The hike commences at Ugabmund at 09:00 and also ends there. It is recommended that hikers spend the previous night at Mile 108. Hikers must provide own hiking equipment and food. Medical certificates of physical fitness, issued within the preceeding 40 days, must be provided at commencement of the hike.
