Enjoy Your Stay

Onkoshi Camp has now officially become a reality, even though on the ground there is nothing yet to show for it (other than, of course, the awesome landscapes and wildlife that typify Etosha!).  This is again the culmination of a vision to create new and exciting products within Etosha, not only to enhance the visitor experience, but also to increase the economic value of this magnificent and world-renowned park, in a sustainable and low impact way that will not detract from the product.

  Sundowner

It has been difficult to contain my excitement about this camp over the past few weeks and not to spill the beans sooner – but with the groundbreaking now formally and publicly over, the time has come for action!  And action there will be, as the schedule for completion is August 2008.

Please visit our latest news to read more about the groundbreaking ceremony, which, with the backdrop of the water-filled Etosha Pan, the breathtaking sunset, the glow of the almost full moon, and generally surrounded by the sights and sounds of Africa, became a memorable and magical event.

Game Drive
Onkoshi Camp is situated on the eastern edge of the Etosha Pan, on a secluded peninsula north of Namutoni.  Guests will arrive at Namutoni, which will act as the “docking” station, from where they will be transported to Onkoshi in NWR guided vehicles.  The drive in to the camp, along a meandering 4x4 track through absolutely pristine north-eastern Kalahari Woodlands, is only the beginning of what will be another amazing Etosha experience.

Onkoshi Camp will be developed as an environmentally responsible, eco-friendly facility, using renewable energy, careful water management and minimal disturbance to the surrounding environment.  Visual impact will be minimized through the use of natural materials that blend into the environment.   By using solar energy, noise and air pollution will be negligible.  This conforms to the company’s business strategy of being an environmentally responsible enterprise.   The camp itself is designed in an eco-sensitive manner on elevated wooden decks, and built using primarily wood, canvas and thatch, and will consist of 15 accommodation units and associated facilities.

Activities on offer will include professionally guided morning, afternoon and night drives to surrounding areas of the park, including access to exclusive areas within the north-eastern sand veldt area of Etosha.  For the more adventurous, guided walks and moonlight walks on the Etosha Pan will also be on offer.

  Rhino

One of the primary attractions of the lodge will be the proximity to the pan, with its shimmering mirages during the hot days; dramatic sunset and sunrise textures and colours; sense of isolation and space; clear night skies; and the sights, smells and sounds of untamed and unadulterated Africa.

Lion
Onkoshi Camp will be open for visitors from the 1st September 2008, and reservations can already be made through our reservation office (reservations@nwr.com.na).

This year, for the first time in decades, the Etosha pan has filled entirely with water.  This is a sight not to be missed, and I encourage you to visit Etosha soon to experience it like never before!
