It is with great pride that I can now say that Sossus Dune Lodge has come of age. Officially opened on the 21 July 2007 by His Excellency Hifikepunye Pohamba, President of the Republic of Namibia, this fledgling of NWR is now in popular demand, and has grown from strength to strength.
Offering breathtaking vistas over the magnificent and surreal desert panorama, I believe that SDL has lived up to our promise of giving visitors an absolutely unique opportunity to experience the tranquility and splendor of the Namib Desert, as well as Sossusvlei at sunrise and sunset when it is a its best. With one year of experience under our belts, it will give us great pleasure to host you in the best beds in the desert for years to come.
Another significant achievement on the NWR calendar was the signing of a number of Public Private Partnership (PPP) agreements, for the upgrade and management of Daan Viljoen, Von Bach, Reho Spa, Mile 14, Mile 72, Jakkalsputz and Mile 108, as well as the management of all the petrol stations at NWR Camps.
The signing took place at a glittering event on the 17th July 2008, and was the culmination of months of preparation and negotiation. These partnerships will result in the upgrade and redevelopment of the facilities involved to meet industry facility and service standards, which I believe will be a great relief to our partners and the tourism industry as a whole.
Reservations for these facilities will still be managed through the NWR Reservations Office, until further notice.
And lastly, I am pleased to say that our newest addition, Onkoshi Lodge is developing at a rapid rate, and is on schedule for completion and opening on 1 September 2008. We always count on the travel trade, in particular our Trade Partners, for their support in sharing these beautiful places with guests.
