Hardap Camp, Mariental: – Namibia Wildlife Resorts’ Hardap Camp will be closing operations as of 31st May 2011. The Resort; once a popular holiday Resort for Namibian and regional visitors will be undergoing redevelopment.Despite its prime location on the periphery of the Hardap Dam, and idyllic surroundings, Hardap has lost popularity over the years due to its old and outdated infrastructure. However, it has enormous potential for local, regional and international recreation, water sports and freshwater fishing, as well as being a convenient stop-over for visitors traveling by road between South Africa and Namibia (representing the highest number of foreign tourists to Namibia). Its location also is ideal for the development of conferencing facilities and as a destination for corporate retreats, meetings and incentives – providing for a wide range of recreational activities.
NWR will be comprehensively upgrading the existing infrastructure and building new infrastructure such as a state of the art conferencing facility. Other activities planned for the new development include a floating bar and restaurant; sunset cruises, canoeing and yachting; and expansion into guided activities (hiking and nature drives).
The development phase is envisaged to take 18 months.
