Keeping our footprint as small as possible!
The Namibia Wildlife Resorts Company Act (Act No. 3 of 1998) mandates NWR to promote the development of environmentally sustainable tourism with a view to preserving the assets and attractions on which the tourism industry depends, and in particular safeguard and maintain ecological processes, biodiversity, aesthetic and cultural qualities for the long term benefit of the tourism industry and Namibian people.
NWR takes this mandate extremely seriously, and strives to adopt environmentally responsible approaches to operations and management, including aspects such as the use of renewable energy and energy efficiency, waste management, water use and the use of environmentally friendly products amongst others. NWR also strives to contribute positively to the management of our protected areas, in order to protect our wildlife assets for future generations.
We encourage you to assist us in our efforts by using our scarce water and energy resources wisely and responsibly; helping us to keep our camps and our park free from litter; and by obeying the park rules.
Here are some of the ways you can help:
Conserving energy
Conventional sources of energy are generally not environmentally friendly – and therefore NWR aims to reduce the use of such energy.
You can assist our efforts by:
• Boiling only the amount of water you need for your coffee or tea
• Closing curtains and blinds when you leave your room
• Switching off lights
Conserving water
Water is a scarce resource in Namibia, and particularly so in many of the areas in which NWR operates. NWR therefore strives to promote the wise use of water, and to minimize water consumption.
You can assist our efforts by:
• Ensuring that taps are tightly closed and not left dripping
• Reporting leaking taps, leaking toilets and appliances
• When staying longer than one night, deciding when you want towels and linen changed
• Limiting the length of your showers to maximum five minutes
